In celebration of the park's 10th anniversary, moonGARDEN will include the installation of 22 illuminated spheres, ranging in size from six to 30 feet in diameter, presented by Montreal artist collective Lucion Traveling Light. The urban park first opened to the public in April 2008 through a partnership between the City of Houston, the Houston First Corporation and the Discovery Green Conservancy. Located at 1500 McKinney Street, Houston, Discovery Green is managed by the nonprofit Discovery Green Conservancy and hosts more than 600 free events annually. I'm going to assume you don't spend much time downtown, but you basically chose the one spot where parking is hard to come by and expensive.HOUSTON, Texas - Discovery Green announced its fall 2018 programming July 31, which includes a special moonGARDEN series to celebrate the 12-acre park's 10th anniversary. Ortega's other restaurants are great, and all have free parking or free valet. It also drops and picks up within a half block of Xochi and is only $1.25 for 3 hours per person.Ĥ) Don't choose a restaurant that is one of about 20 that don't have free parking in Houston. It even drops off right at the door of Xochi.ģ) Park elsewhere and take the light rail. Even for Astros games, you can have free parking if you are willing to walk 7-8 blocks.Ģ) Park somewhere else in downtown and take the free Metro downtown circulator called the Greenlink. There is always street parking available within 5 blocks at the most, and it's free after 6pm and all day Sunday. The city garages charge at least $10 at night for events.ġ) Park and walk a few blocks. Since when do you expect a cheap and convenient parking spot in the middle of an entertainment district in the downtown of the fourth largest city in America? I don't think anyone going to an Astros game, the symphony, a play, etc expect free or cheap parking. Yes that's right, $20! since when is this the norm? how is this legal? Also to add insult to injury, some of these $20 parking spaces were poorly maintained and lacked proper lighting. I'm surprised that so many of them were closed. There are quite a few lots around Discovery Green, but many are priced high. They frequently fill up if there was an event at George R Brown, Minute Maid, or the Toyota Center. They were $30 for Astros playoff games last year. Were they closed or were they full? The garages are priced based on events. To my surprise ALL parking garages where closed.
